May your troubles be less
And your blessings be more.
And nothing but happiness
Come through your door.

Ask just about any Traditions of Braselton neighbor, and they’ll likely tell you that they feel fortune is smiling on them for having found this extraordinary place we all call “home.” (And, hopefully, you will, too, soon!) In addition to the wealth of fun, recreational pursuits, and activities to be found within our community, there is a treasure trove of alluring events and destinations throughout the area that surrounds us. That is particularly true during a time closely associated with good fortune… St. Patrick’s Day.
How The Holiday Hopped the Pond
Also known as the Feast of St. Patrick, St. Patrick’s Day commemorates the date of the death of Saint Patrick – a patron saint of Ireland. Celebrated on March 17 for more than a thousand years, it mainly involved a feast of celebration for the life of the man who legend holds drove the snakes out of Ireland. In truth, he is most famous for converting much of Ireland from a largely Pagan religion to Christianity.
According to History.com, the first St. Patrick’s Day parade took place in America – and not Ireland. The first parade was held in St. Augustine, Florida, in 1601, followed more than a century later in New York in 1772. It is told that a group of Irish soldiers in the British Army who were homesick for their homeland pulled the second parade together. As word spread, so did the celebrations in early American cities like Boston, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Savannah, and beyond.
Our Town’s Take on St. Pat’s
Two and a half centuries later, and a little closer to home… The Town of Braselton is serious about its celebrations, and St. Patrick’s Day is no exception. For the last seven years, neighbors from all over town have converged upon the Braselton LifePath – dressed in green and all smiles from their perch inside a decked-out golf cart – for a homegrown parade and contest for the most imaginatively decorated golf cart. 2024 marks The 8th Annual Paddy’s Day PathFEST on Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The PathParade sets off from ACE Hardware on Hwy 211 at 10 a.m. To have your cart considered for the contest, you must check in with the judges BEFORE 9:30 a.m.
Following the Parade, PathQuest kicks off around 11:15 a.m. and involves a scavenger hunt through several local businesses. Teams must consist of 2-5 people, at least one member must be 18 or older, and cool/funny team names are encouraged. While you can register for this portion of the celebration online, all teams must check in at the Braselton tent at the Primrose Schools parking lot to receive their Quest packets for this timed challenge. For a celebration incorporating live music and adult libations, look no further than Paddy’s Irish Pub at Chateau Elan. An authentic Irish Pub in more than just name, the structure was originally built in Dublin, Ireland, then “deconstructed,” shipped, and reassembled here on Chateau Elan’s grounds in 1997. Since then, it has secured a solid reputation for the quality of its food, full bar, and live music throughout the year. Kick that up a notch on Sunday, March 17, for the pub’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival. From noon to 5 p.m., Paddy’s will play host to an outdoor festival and Irish buffet of Corned Beef & Cabbage, Fish & Chips, Bangers & Mash, Shepherd’s Pie Bread Pudding in Irish Whiskey Sauce, and more. The event will also comprise performances by Irish dancers and live musicians, beer trucks, lawn games, and more.
